16 jan From Trial to Treasure
1 Peter 1:6-7 NIV 6
In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Last summer I took my car on the German autobahns. This was my chance to take this little German car home to it’s familiar territory .. the limitless speeds of the highways there. We opened the throttle! Or should I say my wife, Lizby, opened the throttle to a safe 180!
Having passed that test I then took it onto one of the world’s most challenging race tracks, the Nürburgring!
When was the last time you really opened the throttle of your life? There is more in you than you have begun to realise, more potential than you may dare to imagine. AND more resources available to live this adventurous, called life than maybe you know.
Peter is reminding us of the depths of the resources we have in Christ, activated by the consistency of our faith lived out.
I’m not just talking about the usual resources we think of when needing to open the throttle of our lives – such as money, opportunities, connections and the rest – yes God supplies these at times; but more importantly and much more significantly, the internal resources of determination, persistence, confidence, security, patience, generosity, stability, joy, resilience, peace, strength, unrelenting power, authority and much much more.
What we see as a trial, is actually a mining tool for treasure. Without that trial we would never have dug deeper to find the treasure of His resources.
Don’t waste a trial by complaining! Get everything you can out of that thing, and come out richer, bigger, stronger and resourced.
If your dream is currently too big – don’t shrink the dream, grow the dreamer. If your dream is currently bigger than your resources, don’t downgrade the dream dig for resources.
2 Peter 1:3-8 NIV
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
His divine power has given everything you need; not everything your project needs, everything you need. We spend our time asking for more of this and more of that to complete a project – more time, more finance, more contracts – when was the last time we asked for what we needed for something God is calling us to – more wisdom, greater godliness, refined self-control. Bigger people achieve bigger goals.
God’s ultimate will for us is to live holy, to love much, and to serve humbly. He gives us power and resource to do that.
You are NOT without everything you need, inside of you, to do everything you need to do or be everything you need to be. You are rich in every way.
Tap into that treasure and live it today!
